Mr. Matt Helmkamp gave students a hands-on lesson in both math and history as they headed outside to the front parking lot to take measurements and explore a classic scientific method. Using the length of a shadow cast by a yardstick, students worked to estimate the diameter of the Earth—mirroring the technique first used by Eratosthenes in Alexandria nearly 240 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. This engaging activity allowed students to see how simple observations and critical thinking can lead to incredible discoveries, bringing ancient science to life right here on campus.

Mr. Bradley’s English 102 students recently took their learning beyond the classroom by developing college-level inquiry and research skills in a very real way. Students wrote research-based proposals to their state legislators on current bills being debated in session and then traveled to the State Capitol in Frankfort to meet with legislators and lobby for their ideas. This marks the fourth year Mr. Bradley has brought his classes from Bethlehem to participate in this incredible hands-on experience. During their visit, students had the opportunity to meet with leaders including Jimmy Higdon, James Tipton, Emily Callaway, Candy Massaroni, Josh Calloway, and Sarge Pollock, along with several state officials and staff members who shared insights into how government works. A special highlight of the day was hearing from our own Molly Mattingly, who spoke about her lobbying work with the State Board of Realtors. It was an inspiring and educational day that truly showcased our students’ voices, leadership, and engagement in the civic process.

Our Anatomy & Physiology students have been hard at work diving into the skeletal system! 🦴
They kicked things off with trivia questions to review key concepts, then took a closer look at the upper limb through detailed doodle notes. To wrap it all up, students got hands-on by using modeling clay to identify and distinguish the carpals, metacarpals, and phalanges of the hand.

A special shoutout to Mrs. Stevens for doing an outstanding job creating hands-on learning experiences that truly engage our students and bring the skeletal system to life!
